As a result of a partnership between Cruzes Canhoto and Cercica (Cooperative for the Education and Rehabilitation of Citizens with Disabilities in Cascais), the exhibition “Mr. Cerqueira & The Artbreakers” presents a selection of works produced in the ateliers of plastic expression of that institution. Cruzes Canhoto was responsible for the choice of the artworks, assuming the organization, curatorship and promotion of the event.
The title of the exhibition, which plays with the name of a mythical band from the New York punk scene, comes from a blog where Filipe Cerqueira, one of the featured artists, publishes in a particularly sui generis but always spirited way his tastes, cults and daydreams, the same ones that serve as inspiration for his artistic creations.
Besides Filipe’s, this exhibition highlights also the work of Hélder Rodrigues, Eduardo Santos and Vitor Hugo Santos, each one with a strikingly singular and surprising style of plastic expression, the chosen vehicle of communication between alternative parallel worlds.
More than artbreakers, if any classification is possible, this group of artists could be classified as artsiders, given the marginality and otherness that characterizes them.
